Today we are ending on a great note, with another guest blog by another amazing author! So, I shall stand back and let Cindy Young-Turner take it away!!
But wait, I almost forgot, Cindy is giving something away! For her feature day Cindy is giving away an e-book of her novel Thief of Hope, and she’s adding a Signed Paper Copy of Thief of Hope to the ginormous Grand Prize Pot! We shall learn a bit more about Cindy’s great novel Thief of Hope after her superb blog post...

Happy holidays, everyone, and thanks, Avery, for having me on your blog today! Since we are just days away from Christmas, I thought I’d share one of my favorite holiday books: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. Yes, I was an English major and I adore Dickens. I once took a class on Dickens and Hardy (really enjoyed the Dickens novels, could have done without Thomas Hardy), primarily because I wanted to read Oliver Twist again. I also have a fondness for pickpockets, although I prefer the movie version Oliver! where Fagin and the Artful Dodger get to dance off into the sunset together to steal another day. Alas, they didn’t fare so well in the book. But back to A Christmas Carol. Everyone probably knows the story. Scrooge has lived a miserable, miserly life, former dead colleague Jacob Marley visits to warn him of a terrible fate and the ponderous chain he’s doomed to carry in death, and then he’s visited by three spirits in the hopes of changing his outlook. It’s a holiday story and a ghost story. And Victorian. What could be better? My favorites are Jacob Marley, whose appearance is heralded by the clanging of bells and drags the long chain he forged in life, and the creepy, hooded Ghost of Christmas Future.

The ideas of redemption and kindness toward others make A Christmas Carol a holiday classic. My family used to watch one of the movie versions every year on Christmas Day because it was my dad’s favorite. We videotaped (an ancient concept, back in the days before DVDs and DVRs and streaming) several movie adaptations and would pick one to watch. It was a nice way to relax after the frenzy of gift opening and the initial joy of whatever new toys had been found under the tree. One year I found plum pudding at a British import shop and boiled it per the instructions on the package. It was so-so. I’m sure Mrs. Cratchit’s version was much better.

We often get caught up in the pressure of the holidays. Black Friday seemed to start earlier this year and I’d rather gnaw off my own limbs than be caught in the crush of shoppers trying to get deals. In fact, after December 1, I avoid malls altogether if I can help it. I am not a shopping kind of girl and the holidays make it even worse. Buying online is so easy and there are so many options. I’d rather pay the extra in shipping if it saves me the hassle of dealing with holiday shoppers in stores. In addition to the shopping, there’s always so many things to get done: baking, cards (I get fewer cards each year but I’m still old school and enjoy sending them out), decorating, shipping packages… Sometimes the list seems as long as Jacob Marley’s chains. There’s also the pressure of wanting everything perfect and magical, and it rarely turns out that way.

I’m hoping this will be the year to finally scale back. I’m not aiming for perfection. I just want to enjoy the season. My daughter is three and a half, and to her, magic is in a batch of gingerbread cookies or holiday lights. We don’t need a lot of “stuff” and neither do the people I buy gifts for. The message of A Christmas Carol, to keep Christmas (or substitute the holiday of your choosing) in our hearts, and to offer a little compassion toward our fellow human beings and those less fortunate, is a good one to remember.

Are you a fan of A Christmas Carol? Got a favorite scene from the book or a preferred movie version?

Thank you Cindy! This blog post actually got me into the Christmas Spirit even more, however, sadly I’ve never been a fan of A Christmas Carol. I know, I can’t believe it either, but I’ve seen it time and time again, and read it, and well, sadly it just doesn’t do it for me!

Now, you can find Cindy at her website, on Facebook and of course, she Tweets!

So why don’t we talk a bit about her novel, here is the cover and the blurb that Wow, I think this novel has everything! It’s a great blurb that really says a lot about what to expect from this awesome novel J

Sydney, a street urchin and pickpocket in the town of Last Hope, has managed to evade the oppressive Guild for years, but there is no escaping fate when she's sentenced to death for associating with the resistance.

After she's rescued by a wizard, Sydney is forced to accept that magic-long outlawed throughout the Kingdom of Thanumor-still exists, and the Tuatha, a powerful faery folk, are much more than ancient myth and legend. When the wizard offers a chance to fight the Guild and bring Willem, bastard prince and champion of the Tuatha, to the throne, Sydney embraces the cause as a way to find her own redemption.

But Sydney's fear of the Guild, distrust of authority, and surprising connection to the Tuatha threaten Willem's success. Can she untangle the strange threads that entwine her life not only to the fate of the kingdom, but also to Willem himself?

I know Christmas is still a few days away, that means it’s still a few days until I announce the winner, so if you want to give yourself an early present, say... maybe a copy of Thief of Hope by Cindy Young-Turner you can grab a copy at Amazon and Barnes & Noble, or just wait, a few more days.

Thank you so much Cindy for stopping by! And everyone, please come back tomorrow where I remind you all just how great the Grand Prize really is, and remind you again that you can still go back and enter each day you’ve missed J

13 Days of Christmas Giveaway: Day Twelve!

Sadly it’s the second last day of the 13 Days of Christmas Giveaways! But, on the bright side, it’s the twelfth day of giveaways!
Today we have a great interview with Michelle Clay, and she’s here talking about and promoting her new release Bitter Black Kiss. This novel has it all, I swear, and I’m proud to say that one of you will win an e-copy of Bitter Black Kiss, and, if you don’t win that, well, you’ll get a second chance to own this great book, as Michelle is adding this great novel to the swelling Grand Prize Giveaway Pot!
So, instead of making you wait any longer, let me introduce you to Bitter Black Kiss by Michelle Clay!

Former event planner Nicole Riley lost not only her job, but part of her humanity when a concert in L.A., fails in catastrophic proportions as the band attacks a rival werewolf pack in attendance. As one of the infected, Nicky has been keeping her “inner beast” in check by taking wolf’s bane, trying to remain in denial, and refusing to become a monster. She’s also slowly begun to rebuild her reputation after the L.A. massacre and has deep respect for Sean Stone because he took a chance on her when no one else would. Now she is in charge of the entertainment for all of Sean’s nightclubs and her life is as close to normal as it gets. Then Brody, the dee-jay at Bitter Black, plays on her sympathy by claiming to have just suffered a wolf bite and she can’t turn him away. She’s very attracted to Brody, but is it wise to mentor him when she can’t even accept what she is? Things take a dark turn when she finds out he’s been lying to her all along.
Brody Dunn is a former police detective in special crimes, a unit that deals with werewolves. When a stripper is found in an alley with a lethal dose of BST (street name: Beast) in her system, Brody poses as a DJ at Bitter Black. He’s convinced Sean Stone is the one bringing the drug into the city and his employee, Nicole was the last one in the dancer's apartment. Brody also knows that Stone has laid down a challenge to the local Alpha and wants to become Pack Leader himself. A change in leadership that Brody is dead set against. In order to get close to Stone, he uses Nicole and pretends to be newly infected by the werewolf virus. He knows that she’s a bleeding heart and will do what she can to help him. What he doesn’t count on is the way Nicole affects him by merely walking in a room.
Stone is used to having his way and getting what he wants. He now wants Nicole whether she’s agreeable or not. He’s more than happy to expose Brody’s secrets to her while hiding his own. Will Nicole be able to navigate the dark and treacherous path between the two men? For it’s not just a choice between her career or her heart, but her humanity hangs in the balance. Which will she choose?
Now, I know some of you are as impatient as I am, and if you find yourself having the overwhelming urge to go out and buy Bitter Black Kiss right now, well, you can! Just head on over to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and pick up a copy.
I want to give a huge thanks to Michelle for sticking around an answering a few questions, it’s so awesome to get to know both the novel and the writer behind the novel!
Welcome Michelle! Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How about in five words or less.
Creative, dark, sensitive, determined and stubborn
Now why don’t you tell us a bit about Bitter Black Kiss? In five words or less, of course J
Bitter Black Kiss is a dark, gritty romance involving werewolves. J
Say you want some a box of chocolates, right this second (it’s okay if you do) what flavour would they be?
I DO want chocolates now! My tastes are simple. Chocolate covered caramels are my absolute fave.
Let’s say you’re moving cross-country, and you can only bring two books with you, what would they be and why?
Now that’s a hard one. There’s so many I’d want to bring! Definitely The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber – It’s like 5lbs, should count for at least 2 books and I still haven’t finished it yet. J I usually read more contemporary novels, but this one has really pulled me in.
So, where do you get your inspiration for your novels from?
For me, inspiration most often comes in the form of dreams and nightmares, music, movies and life experiences. It’s all around us, all the time.
Can you give us a teaser from Bitter Black Kiss? You know something that will hook and send everyone out to go buy the book right this second.
Bitter Black Kiss is crammed full of werewolves, drug lords and strippers. What more could you ask for?
How did you get your start in writing, was it always your dream? And what steps have you taken to becoming an Author?
It sounds cliché, I’m sure, but I’ve known since an early age that I wanted to be a writer. Instead of doing my schoolwork, I used to write poems and short stories in class. The teachers would make me read them aloud as punishment, but it was never punishment to me! I was a storyteller at heart. I wrote my first novella in Jr. High and when my English teacher read it, she praised me and told me that I really had a gift. SO, thanks Mrs. Roberts!
The steps I’ve taken since then? I’ve been a member of many critique groups, I write almost every day and I never stop believing in the worlds I create.
Finally, do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring authors? Maybe a lesson that you’ve learned that you’d like to share.
Write, write and write some more. Perfect your craft and never, ever give up. The toughest and arguably the most important lesson I’ve learned is to have a thick skin. The thicker the better.

You can find Michelle at her website and if that’s not enough, why not look her up on Facebook?

Thank you so much Michelle for stopping by, Bitter Black Kiss is a must read, and everyone should add it to their growing list of books that need to be read or else!

13 Days of Christmas Giveaway: Day Eleven!

00:15 by Avery Olive 18 comments
The Eleventh Day of Christmas Giveaways is featuring a fellow Crescent Moon Press Author, the lovely Christine Ashworth! She’s got for us a great blurb, an eye-catching cover and a even a mini-interview! Oh, and what makes this day even better? She’s going to give away a E-Copy of her novel, Demon Soul, she’s also going to add a $15 Amazon gift card to the already over-stuffed Grand Prize Giveaway Pot!
Now, why don’t we learn about Christine first, and then I’ll get to her awesome novel J

Christine Ashworth is a native of Southern California. The daughter of a writer and a psych major, she fell asleep to the sound of her father's Royal manual typewriter for years. In a very real way, being a writer is in her blood-her father sold his first novel before he turned forty; her brother sold his first book before he turned twenty-five.
At the tender age of seventeen, Christine fell in love with a man she met while dancing in a ballet company. She married the brilliant actor/dancer/painter/music man, and they now have two tall sons who are as brilliant as their parents, which keeps the dinner conversation lively.
Christine's two dogs rule the outside, defending her vegetable garden from the squirrels, while a polydactyl rescue cat named Zaphod holds court inside the house. Everything else is in a state of flux, leaving her home life a cross between an improv class and a think-tank for the defense of humans against zombies and demons.

You can find Christine on her blog, she does Tweet and of course, she’s got a great Facebook page too!

That’s an awesome Bio! I wish my sounded near as good. Note to self, work on writing a better bio! So, now that we’ve learned about Christine, why don’t we learn about Demon Soul, shall we?

…to retrieve his soul…Gabriel Caine stands on the edge of the abyss. A vampire has stolen his soul and if he doesn’t get it back soon, his next step will be into hell.
…she’ll become fire…Rose Walters has been sent back from the dead to complete one task – save Gabriel Caine. But this muscled guy in leather, black jeans and a dangerous aura didn’t look like he needed anyone’s help.
Rose has touched the whole of Gabriel, making him yearn for a love he believes he can never have. Her willingness to put her human life on the line for him forces him to bring all three parts of himself – demon, human and Fae bloodlines, and the traps and gifts of each – into harmony, and into the fight that will decide their fate.

My gosh that is one great blurb! And the cover, it’s so enticing, I love it! Now, if you are desperate to rush out a grab a copy now, and can’t wait and see if you’ve won, you can buy it directly from Crescent Moon Press, or pick it up from Amazon!

Christine was kind enough to stick around an answer a few questions, giving us an even deeper look at her novel Demon Soul!

What would be the main theme song for your novel?
The Doors’ Light My Fire
Can you come up with a one sentence super awesome tag line?
…to retrieve his soul, she’ll become fire…
If you had to choose movie stars to play your main characters who would they be?
Carey Mulligan as Rose, and…hm…
If you remember, what were you doing when for Demon Soul suddenly hit?
I had already written the book and it wasn't a very good book at that point. Then I took a workshop with Bob Mayer and felt pretty silly, talking about demons and vampires to this military guy, and I talked about the vampire stealing Gabriel's soul, and how only Rose could retrieve it but I wasn't sure how that part would work.
Bob thought about it, and he said to me, "What if Rose is a Soul Chalice?" Everyone in the room gasped, and I knew. The whole book shifted sideways and tons of other possibilities opened up to me.

Thanks so much Christine for stopping by, answering some questions, being a part of the 13 Days of Christmas Giveaways, and of course, giving something away!!

13 Days of Christmas Giveaways: Day Ten!

It’s the tenth day of the 13 Days of Christmas Giveaways! And now... we have Chelsea Fine!
Chelsea is no stranger to the blog, she was here, promoting her debut novel Sophie & Carter and now she’s back with a new novel and a super fun interview!
The prize for today is a signed paper-copy of her new novel Anew, she’s also adding a signed copy to the massively huge Grand Prize Giveaway Pot!
Before we get to the interview, let me introduce you to Anew book 1 in the Archers of Avalon series.

Two years ago, Scarlet awoke in the forest alone, afraid, and without her memory. Lost and confused, her life was a mystery until she met a boy with a familiar voice named Gabriel Archer. Intrigued by his voice, Scarlet immerses herself in Gabriel's life only to stumble upon a secret he's kept hidden from her: His brother. Once Scarlet meets Tristan Archer her life becomes even more muddled. While she's instinctively drawn to Gabriel, she's impossibly drawn to Tristan--and confused out of her mind. Why does Gabriel seem so familiar? Why is she so attracted to Tristan? And why are both brothers convinced she's been cursed to die? Scarlet doesn't have the answers...but the Archer brothers do.

Wow! This blurb sounds awesome, and who wouldn’t love a book with two brothers!

Of course I’d like you to enter the contest and see if you win a copy of Anew, but if you must delve into this novel and meet the Archer Brothers as well as Scarlet you can buy Anew from Amazon and Barnes & Noble!
Chelsea was kind enough to stick around and answer a few questions about her, and her novel Anew, so without further adieu...
Welcome Chelsea! Can you tell us a bit about yourself? How about in five words or less.
I smile a LOT.
Now why don’t you tell us a bit about Anew? In five words or less, of courseJ
Love triangle with a curse.
Say you want a pizza, right this second (it’s okay if you do) what kind would it be?
Hawaiian! I love pineapple! Yum. J
You’ve decided to backpack through the Amazon, only two books will fit in your pack, what would you bring and why?
The Count of Monte Cristo (love!) and The Notebook (my favorite book of all time).
So, where do you get your inspiration for your novels from?
Mostly from the people and situations in my life. But sometimes I’m inspired simply but my own desires. I’ll think to myself, “You know what would be great? If I discovered I had a superpower and was from another dimension…” and then I’ll go write a story about a girl from another dimension with a crazy superpower. J
Can you give us a teaser from the Anew? You know something that will hook and send everyone out to go buy the book right this second.
She rummaged through her brain for something—any information at all. But her memories seemed lost.
Stolen, even.
As if plucked with magical precision from her head leaving nothing but emptiness.
She was terrified.
She closed her eyes and tried to think. There had to be something in the emptiness; something inside her head that could echo back a memory. She scanned her mind desperately until finally….
Click. Hidden far away, in the back of her brain, was a tiny scrap of knowledge. It flitted about like a hummingbird, teasing her with answers as she chased it around.
Finally, she grasped it and her eyes flew open with two revelations.
Her name was Scarlet Jacobs.
And she was fifteen years old.
Aside from that, she remembered nothing.
What was the most difficult part of your journey to publication?
Probably summoning up the courage to actually have editors/publishers read my stuff. My books seem so personal to me…like, they’re my babies or something, and for a long time I was really afraid of letting anyone else read them. So, I had to swallow my fears and be brave!
There are a million different publishers/agents in the industry how did you land your publisher and or agent?
Luck. I know, that’s a lame answer, but it’s the truth. I sent my manuscript to a proof-reader I found on Craigslist and was referred to my publisher. Weird, right? But SO awesome!
Finally, do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring authors? Maybe a lesson that you’ve learned that you’d like to share.
Don’t give up! You’re never too young or too old. You’re never too busy or too naive. Just write. Write, write, write…until something magical pours out of you and you sit back and say, “Wow. I want to share this. I believe in this story.” Just keep writing! J

You can find Chelsea hanging out at her website, Facebook and Twitter!

Thanks so much Chelsea for stopping by it’s always a pleasure and I can’t wait to read Anew, I loved Sophie & Carter so I have no doubt this will be just as good or better!!

13 Days Of Christmas Giveaways: Day Nine!

My how time flies! We are on Day Nine of the 13 Days of Christmas Giveaways! And today, we have a real treat for you, Author J. F. Jenkins, and she’s got double prizes for today.
We are going to showcase, two, TWO of J. F. Jenkins books, which means one lucky person is going to win Two great novels... but that’s not all, she’s also adding both books into the rather plump Grand Prize Giveaway Pot!
So, I’m not going to waste any more time, instead getting right into the introductions!

First up we have The Dragon’s Saga: Legend of the Oceina Dragon

Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he¹s loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn¹t even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she¹s going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she’s forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.
When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

That’s a premise that I think will grab anyone’s attention. I know it grabbed mine. J.F. Jenkins was also kind enough to answer a few questions about The Dragon’s Saga too but we will get to those after I introduce you to the second novel.
You can purchase The Dragon’s Saga: Legend of the Oceina Dragon directly from Astraea Press, or you can go to Amazon, Smashwords or Barnes & Noble... Of course, you can also just wait and see if you win a copy too. You’re Choice.

Now this next novel has awesome written all over it! It’s J. F. Jenkins Vala: Agendas

Cheyenne Loveless was just a boring sixteen-year-old girl. Then Denver Collins bit her and everything changed. Her plants start talking to her, she finds out she’s a Nymph, and a witch and the angel of death shows up at her doorstep to take her away to the prestigious Vala School and Seminary. Oh, and she has no choice in the matter.
All she wants to do is blend in and return to being invisible, but the more time that passes, the harder that becomes. Plus she’s a daughter of the Divine, an exclusive secret society which rules the world of myth, and discovers she is a key ingredient to an ancient covenant created before she was born. A covenant that will reshape the order of the world.
Adjusting to a new school is difficult enough, but adding on everyone else’s hidden agendas is the icing on the cake. Cheyenne must learn to see through the lies in order to find her place — and possibly even love — in this new world.

If you’re going to go out and buy The Dragon’s Saga, well you might as well buy Vala: Agendas too! You can pick this baby up straight from Astraea Press too, or check it out here on Amazon, or Barnes & Noble. Or well, as I said above, you can just wait until Christmas to see if you’ve won!

Now, J. F. Jenkins was kind enough to stick around and answer a few questions about both these great novels!
What would be the main theme song for your novel?
Legend: “Come Alive” by Gavin Mikhail
Agendas: “I'm With You” Avril Lavigne
Can you come up with a one sentence super awesome tag line?
Legend: A girl, a dragon, their love.
Agendas: The daughter of a goddess, the whole world changes the night he bit her.
If you had to choose movie stars to play your main characters who would they be?
Legend:
Darien would be played by Landon Liboiron
Tai would be played by Lucy Hale
Agendas:
Cheyenne would be played by Alexis Bledell
Denver would be played by Shia LaBeouf
Anj/Zes by Kendall Schmidt
If you remember, what were you doing when the ideas for Dragon's Saga and Agendas suddenly hit?
The answer for both of these novels is: I was sleeping. Both of them came in dreams!

I think lots of Authors can say some of the best scenes, novel idea’s and dialogue came from something that happened in a dream! It’s an excellent source of inspiration!
You can find J. F. Jenkins, and learn even more about these two great novels at her blog, Facebook, or follow her on Twitter!
