Book Review and Giveaway: Sophie & Carter by Chelsea Fine

Through the awesomeness that is Twitter I learned about Sophie & Carter, as well as their Author, Chelsea Fine. With this novel, I’ve now been turned into a huge fan of Chelsea’s as well as making a new friend! Check out the blurb and the super cute cover! Also, learn (at the bottom) how to enter to win a paperback copy of Sophie & Carter!
While other high school seniors are dreaming about their futures, Sophie and Carter are just trying to make it through each day. Carter is overwhelmed by issues at home as he struggles to support his mother. Meanwhile, next door neighbour Sophie is left to care for her three younger siblings in place of their absent and troubled mother. All that holds these two best friends together is each other, and knowing that each night they'll sit together on Sophie's front porch swing and escape from reality, if just for awhile. But as their relationship reaches a turning point and high school graduation nears, will their friendship become something more?--Quoted from Goodreads
Is it selfish to say that I want more? More Sophie & Carter. More Chelsea Fine, more love, more tears and more “littles”? I loved this books guts and couldn’t put it down, literally! Did I mention that I’m sad because it’s over?
Sophie & Carter is a passionate story of discovering love and rising above the shattered families that are barely holding together. This is truly a page turner, a tiny pocket sized morsel of greatness.
Chelsea Fine was able to create wonderfully real characters challenged with real life problems.
Sophie, who should be worrying about curfews, colleges and boyfriends, is forced to play every role a mother should, but what her own mother isn’t doing. She’s taking care of bills, food, homework, but most of all taking care of the family her mother has chosen to leave behind.
Carter, a teenager who’s grown up with domestic violence struggles to keep himself whole, and his mother. Having nearly been broken more times than he can count—his one saving grace is the girl next door.
Together the two of them struggle to stay afloat as the tides rush in threatening to take away their courage, their strength and their will but they find solace in each other. Having seen the inside of each other’s broken homes, Sophie and Carter know what’s real and what isn’t, and through this tear-jerking journey, they also realize the love they have for each other.
It’s a moving story, with a happy ending—Keep the Kleenex and chocolate nearby!
